Jeff Barton (Coach/Teacher) and Scott Barton (SHS Class of 2006). Father and Son
Golf Legends. The Bartons were a golfing force during the SHS golf program’s most
successful period. Jeff was one of the original staff members of Sisters High School in
1992 when SHS opened after a 25-year wait. In addition to his teaching duties, Jeff
coached the boys’ golf team from 1992 through 2011, a period during which the team
won multiple league titles and two state championships. The team had a particularly
magical run from 2000 through 2008, winning two state championships (2001, 2003)
finishing second three times (2000, 2002, 2004), and third once (2008).
Scott Barton was one of Oregon’s top amateur golfers. Scott was on teams that won
one state championship (2003) and finished second in 2004, Individually, Scott
finished third at state in 2004 and tied for second in 2006. In 2004, the SHS team set
a low score of 291 for eighteen holes for a 3A State Tournament Record, which still
stands to this day. Scott regularly earned medalist honors throughout his high school
play. In 2005 he averaged 71.2 in ten league matches (under par six times), and was
tournament medalist in eight of ten other matches, including the CO Classic. Scott
was a Mr. SHS nominee, a member of the Americana Project, and a Wendy’s High
School Heisman National Nominee. He earned a golf scholarship to Oregon State
University and qualified for the 2005 United States Junior Amateur Championship.
The Bartons, a dynamic father and son duo, have left an indelible mark on Sisters
High School and its golf program.
